Every parrot species has 4 toes where the two toes are forward and two toes face backward. The fingers of parrots are like human beings. If parrots are unfamiliar with their environment, then they manipulate things. Usually, pet parrots vary in size. They have different colors on their body and feathers.
Parrot’s Origin
Parrots were 59 million years old creatures. Many parrot species are formed in warm habitats. It includes grassland islands, rainforest, mountains etc. Few parrot species including Kea parrot are found in cold regions of world. It includes the region of New Zealand that is Alpine. One evidence found that according to which parrots were found in India about 3000 years ago.
Types of Parrots
As you all know that parrots are found in hundreds of types. So, it is very difficult to classify all these parrot species. As a parrot owner, here, I will tell you some popular types of parrot species on the basis of their size.
- Small Parrots: Small parrots usually have a height of 10 to 23 cm. These parrot species include lovebirds, budgies, Bourke’s parrot etc.
- Medium Parrots: Medium parrots usually have a height of 23 to 34 cm. Parrots in this category are Cockatoos, Quaker parrots, Parakeets, Hahns Macaws etc.
- Large Parrots: Large parrots are very tall. They have a height of 50 cm. These parrot species are Parakeets, African gray parrots, Amazon parrots, Hyacinth Macaw etc.
- Extra Large Parrots: Extra large parrots hai height of 60 to 100 cm. Alexandrine parrot and many macaw species are included in it.
Behavior
It is difficult to attract parrot species. If they are not trained, then they are very difficult to handle by their owners. Many researchers said that wild parrot species can controlled by training.
