Sri Lanka and India is the habitat of Alexandrine parrots. They are often found in agricultural lands, forests, woodlands, and mangrove forests. They live at the height of 3000 feet. Alexandrine parrot is call after the Great Alexander. 

Alexander is famous for moving bird species to Mediterranean region. These birds were very noble. They lived in England, Belgium, Germany, Spain, Hong Kong, Netherland, Arabian peninsula etc.

Temperament

Alexandrine parrots are consider one person birds. They have a very loving, affectionate and caring nature. They develop a strong bond with one family member. They show aggressive behavior very quickly.

To handle, Alexandrine parrots requires a lot of training. Sometimes alexandrine parakeet show aggressive behavior. It is due to hormonal changes in bluffing phase. In this situation, it is very tricky for the owner to handle their feathery friend. The time of this phase is 2 weeks to 2 years.

With proper training, bonding technique and socialization alexandrine parrots can settle with you. 

They can get familiar with new home within few weeks. They enjoy the environment around them. They are one of the excellent talkers among all pet parrots.

Alexandrine Parrot Colors 

Most alexandrine parrots have a length of 25 inches. They are famous due to their long elegant tail and feathers. Generally they are more stocking as compared to Indian ringneck parakeets. They have green color on their body, great blue on cheek and neck, green. They have shiny yellow color on abdomen, red color on shoulders and red beak with a yellow tip.

Their tails are full of many beautiful colors. The top of the tail is green, middle is blue colored and the tip is yellow colored. Alexandrine parakeets are dimorphic species. The male and female both are same. But one difference among them is that the male has a rose colored ring around their neck. Females have no neck rings around their neck.

Care

Alexandra and parrots are famous for their beauty, intelligence and talking ability. They need a large space, a lot of attention and supervise exercise daily. Out of cage style everyday is beneficial for them. Alexandrine parrots are medium size parrots but they need a large cage. 

Their size must consist of 3 feet in length and 2 feet in width. They are very friendly with their owner. They are fond of playing with water. So you can allow your alexandrine parakeet to take bath but supervision is necessary. But your parrot can take a bath only once a week. Misting is also loved by many alexandrine parakeets.

Most alexandrine parrots rely on fruits, leafy green vegetables, nuts and pellets. Fresh fruits and leafy green vegetables play an important role in a balanced diet. High quality made pelleted diets are also good for alexandrine parrots.

As a parakeet owner, you can serve quarter to half cup of pellets to cockatiels. A quarter to half cup of fruits vegetables mixed nuts and beans is healthy for them. Avoid serving chocolate and avocado to alexandrine parakeets.

Exercise

Alexandrine parrots are active parrot species. They do exercise to maintain their physical health. Many parrot owners prefer a large cage for them. They need a lot of space to move without damaging their feathers, tail etc. Playing with different toys also serves as a source of exercise for them.

Alexandrine parakeets should spend at least 4 hours for exercise, flying and playing. Playing and exercise time should supervised by their owners. If they treated unattended, then they show curious behavior. They are very intelligent parrots that learn how to chew and eat various foods.
